Messiah vs Religion
Good to see Messiah still smashing it…
Phil (aka Katanga), the other half of Sonic Trauma, our dubstep production moniker, and I are off to meet with Z Audio next Thursday Tuesday 19th, which should hopefully herald the beginning of a series of releases on their various labels. Before long we’ll be dashing between rooms playing D&B and dubstep in one night hehe ![]()
I’ve been finding over the past year that I don’t have as much time as I’d like to sit down in front of Cubase, so I’ve taken drastic measures & handed in my notice.
This is the perfect chance to free up some time and generally reorganise what I’m up to. I’m going to be completing an array of freelance design projects and also concentrate on running my company (Calibrate Ltd).
So from the 21st August, I shall be free of the 9 to 5 & be able to set a week apart for making tunes… which is nice.

A friend just told me that one of my tunes is in this month’s MixMag, so I popped into my local newsagent to pick up a copy.
So, skipping to the Drum & Bass review section, there it was… Felon - No Stone Unturned (ahem, click to buy it now!) reviewed in all its glory. Big thanks to Rob at Ennex Records for putting it out.
My housemate picked up a PS3 and a copy of GTA4 - bloody hell, it’s good!
It’s a nice day & we’re sat inside with the curtains closed bombing round Liberty City causing havoc.
Well done, Rockstar - another wicked release & the Classics Hip Hop radio show is the one!
Production takes time, and at the moment, that’s something I don’t have much of. It can be a bit of a double-edged sword where I find myself wishing I had more time to produce, then when I do get a chance to sit down in front of my computer and power up Cubase, I get frustrated if the results aren’t forthcoming.
I’m sure I’m not alone in this respect. However, what possibly makes it worse is that, these days the music I produced is being well received, and for me to ‘break through’ as an artist, I need to be fairly prolific with my output, and of course consistent with the quality, whilst remaining true to my developing ’style’.
I work full time and run my own company, both involve sitting in front of a computer for long periods of time (pushing pixels etc as a designer). So, the last thing I want to do when I get home is spend even longer in front of the screen.
So for the meantime, my production may suffer, however putting in effort now to sort my (dare I say “real”) career will enable me to make more time for production in the coming years.
After all, I make music for myself first and foremost, and it should be an enjoyable process. Whether I make a name sooner or later is something that shouldn’t come into it. However… it’s a great feeling when people tell you your tunes are sick and ask for more!
